So you want to learn brush calligraphy?
Super sweet! You’re in the right place.
When I first used a brush marker pen, I had no idea what to do with it.
It felt awkward, my brush strokes were so heavy and shaky, and my calligraphy looked nothing like the gorgeous work of others I saw on the Internet.
I took a class, and then another class, but all I seemed to be good at was wasting loads and loads of printer paper and hoarding all the pens I could. (I wanted them all!)
Once I figured things out, my writing was smoother and I started to have so much fun.
Over time, things started to click. Not only did my calligraphy improve, but I realized how aware I was of each stroke I put down. It’s like someone removed a blanket covering my head and I could clearly understand how the brush pen worked and how I could use it to make the writing I wanted.
You can do the same!
It’s exciting to truly feel confidence as you write, to be proud of your work, and most of all, to simply enjoy the process of creating.
But where do you start?
How do you begin practicing?
Don’t worry. I’ll take you through all of it! Baby step by baby step, I’m all about going slowly and surely, while still covering all the details.
Does this sound like something you want?
Stick around and we’ll learn together!
Hi, I’m Sharisse.
As a mama to three little ones and working a full-time job, I’ve figured out how to squeeze in practice after bedtime. Stick with me and you’ll soon conquer the brush pen one step at a time!

Hi Sharisse! Your blog looks is so inspirational and I can’t wait to get started! But watching your videos where your handlettering is so absolutely beautiful, I can’t help but wonder whether I need to be artistic to really be good at this and create beautiful artwork like yours? Do you have an artistic background? Thank you! xx

Hi Karmen! I don’t have any formal training in the arts or design. I’ve simply enjoyed doodling growing up and making posters and homemade cards. Truthfully, I believe everyone has an artistic side – it just needs the right environment and tools to come out! Focus on one small aspect at a time. For most people, that means building control of the brush calligraphy pen and learning how to use it. Once you get more comfortable with it, you’ll find more confidence in creating letters, stroke by stroke. Hope this helps you! And always aim for progress, not perfection.
